Everything the city had ever paid to forget came home at once: forty-four years of bought silences, arriving unindexed, unaddressed, and with nothing left anywhere to say whose they had been.

Bex had carried one borrowed kitchen for thirty-one years and had been careful with it. At 6:04 he was holding nine hundred other things, and not one of them came with a name on it.
