Reborn as the CEO's Assistant

Rules of a Written World

Chapter 5 · free to read

Experiment one. If I walk the route the novel gave the secretary, the pages hang still. If I walk anywhere else, they come with me.

Rule one: when I do what the novel expected, I get one page. When I do something it never wrote, I get one page ahead — badly typed, half a paragraph, thirty seconds of the future at a time.

Rule two: it costs. Every page I force out of it, my hands shake for a minute afterwards and I lose a memory I don't notice going. Last week I could still recall my old apartment's door code.

Card three, spent. In the novel this call is one sentence in a paragraph about how tired the CEO is. In this room it was the most expensive sentence I owned.
