The fourth granary opened its doors that morning. It opened them to sell.
Purifying smoke does nothing whatever to the living. It only takes their air. Somebody upstairs had decided that was near enough.
They had been promised the garden would eat them. It carried their children out of the smoke instead, and then it stood there and held the line for them.
