It rained on Karvai. It rained on nothing else. The boundary was as sharp as a page-edge, and she stood with one shoulder wet and one shoulder dry and understood exactly what she was standing in.

Warm. Faintly mineral. It tasted of the well, because it was the well — thinned out, lifted up, and handed to five hundred people at once.
