The Blind Tea-House Blade

The Name on the Wind

Chapter 4 · free to read

By morning the district knew the Quiet Sparrow had closed its doors. By noon the jianghu knew why. A name thought buried for nineteen years was moving through the underworld like ink dropped in still water.

He had only to loosen the name and let the jianghu do his work. Every teller who said 'the Whisper lives' bound her more tightly to the door she could no longer flee.

She could not send the girl out into a jianghu that whispered her name, so she taught her to move through it unheard.

She had shown the world nothing but a blade. To this frightened child she showed, for the first time in nineteen years, patience — and was surprised to find she still had some.
